Beamline to the HHT Experimental Area

PHELIX offers the unique capability to conduct combined experiments with high-energy laser and heavy ion beams. For this purpose, the laser beam is directed over a distance of more than 100 meters through a vacuum tube to the HHT experimental area. At the end of this beam path, the infrared laser light (1053 nm) is converted to the green spectrum (527 nm) through a nonlinear crystal (frequency doubling). Additionally, an advanced sensor system (HHT sensor) enables precise measurement of all relevant beam parameters required for subsequent experiments.
