FAIR Comissioning

The FAIR Commissioning sub-project is responsible for the overall management of the commissioning of the FAIR accelerator facilities and experimental areas. This involves planning, preparation, organization and coordination of both, hardware and beam commissioning. The commissioning phase begins section by section with the completion of the installation (mechanical completion) and ends for each accelerator chain with the provision of the beam at the designated experimental station for an initial experiment. The beam parameters for the handover to operations were defined for Early Science and First Science+ as Project Completion Parameters or, in the case of First Science, were developed in the GSI/FAIR Performance Committee and in the Commissioning Workshop:

 

  • Early Science – Chain (UNILAC-SIS18-HEBT-SFRS-NUSTAR): 238U73+, 1 GeV/u, 2E9 ions/second
  • First Science – Chain (UNILAC-SIS18-HEBT-SIS100-SFRS-NUSTAR): 238U28+, 1,4 GeV/u (60 Tm), 2.5E10 ions/cycle
  • First Science Plus – Chain (UNILAC-SIS18-HEBT-SIS100-CBM): 197Au79+, 11 GeV/u, 1E7 ions/second
