The diversity of people and their perspectives is a resource and a strength, their inclusion a requirement and a matter of course at GSI Helmholtzzentrum.
The guiding principle of diversity is the appreciation of the diversity of employees. In this context, similarities and differences such as gender, age, migration, religion, disability, sexual identity, culture and education are described.
Diversity management means using this diversity in a productive and value-adding way. Different perspectives allow different needs and contexts in a research institution such as GSI to be better taken into account. Employees must be viewed holistically and diversity must be enabled and promoted. At the same time, the aim is to identify areas for action to improve working life. This is where employees and their different and common needs should be reflected. Different experiences, phases of life or life situations are a driving force for creative ideas and concepts and therefore for innovation.
The aim is to create a culture that values and promotes diversity at all levels.
Achieving this goal is not a short-term project, but a long-term and sustainable change in the culture of a research institution. The implementation of diversity consists of four core elements:
- Anchoring the topic of diversity in the research institution's strategy as the basis for a shared, appreciative understanding of diversity,
- Diversity as an integral part of Z. E.g. strategic discussions on the topic of personnel at management level,
- Integration of diversity into all strategic topics,
- By identifying specific challenges (e.g. in an employee survey), concrete measures can then be derived.
