The employees of GSI and FAIR contribute significantly to the performance of the research institute. GSI and FAIR therefore make extensive efforts to offer their employees a creative, productive and healthy working environment in which they feel comfortable. This area of activity represents a fundamental part of the social dimension of GSI and FAIR's understanding of sustainability.
By signing the Charta der Vielfalt in 2021, GSI and FAIR are acknowledging their responsibility to create an appreciative working environment for their employees that is free from bias. This is intended to express the fact that GSI and FAIR ensure equal opportunities for their employees regardless of, for example, social background, gender, gender identity or religious orientation. In order to fulfill this voluntary commitment, GSI and FAIR have established employee representatives, such as the works council, the equal opportunities committee and the representative body for severely disabled employees. Furthermore, diversity at the research institute is promoted and strengthened, for example through childcare services to improve family friendliness as well as information on mentoring and networking for women.
Further information on diversity at GSI and FAIR can be found here.
GSI and FAIR strengthen the physical and mental health, well-being and individual awareness of their employees through a wide range of offers. These include
- Fitness programs such as yoga and back training
- Mobile massages
- Mindfulness and nutrition courses and
- Workshops on various topics such as healthy sleep, appreciation and recognition and stress management.
- Company sports group: Schnelle Ionen e.V. sports club (e.g. badminton, boxing and soccer)
- Company medical service
- City cycling
GSI and FAIR also offers flexible working hours and hybrid working models to improve the work-life balance. This creates a working environment that also caters to the private needs of individual employees and thus strengthens the work-life balance.
The promotion of young talent in science, technology, administration and IT is a key concern of GSI and FAIR. Programs such as the Summer Student Program, a variety of apprenticeships and dual study programs as well as student labs, student internships and Girls/Boy Day give young people a comprehensive insight into the world of research.
An international summer program for students is offered every year. The program provides the opportunity to gain an insight into research at GSI and FAIR. The Summer Student Program is an excellent opportunity for students to expand their professional and interdisciplinary skills. The program also allows students to network with other students from around the world and deepen their international experience. Learn more about the program here.
For those who want to combine theory and practice in the best possible way, GSI offers a wide range of apprenticeships in the technical, scientific and commercial fields. GSI also enables students to combine their studies with work in various specialist departments as part of a dual study program.
GSI and FAIR want to use the potential of their employees' ideas to achieve continuous improvements. The GSI and FAIR Ideas Portal offers employees the opportunity to achieve optimizations in all areas of work, such as
- Improving working conditions, e.g. raising safety standards
- Improving workplace design
- Improving internal communication
- Product and process optimization
- Increasing employee motivation and willingness to perform
- Increasing employee loyalty through better identification opportunities
- More efficient use of resources
Each proposal is reviewed and evaluated by a committee and, if appropriate, awarded a prize and implemented.
