Nine countries collaborating
HADES is a collaborative project involving the participation of 18 scientific institutes from nine countries across Europe.
Planning of the experiment began in 1995. This phase was followed by the construction of initial prototypes. The first scientific measurements were recorded by HADES in 2001. Recent developments in computer technology have enabled scientists to process and analyze the gigantic volumes of data in completely new ways. Between 2009 and 2011 the electronics was fully renewed. Following the upgrade it is now also possible to conduct measurements at greater beam intensities and with heavier ions.
HADES will be a part of the CBM (compressed baryonic matter) experiment at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR). The CBM experiment will enable researchers to investigate, among other things, processes in supernovae and neutron stars with unprecedented precision.
