CRYRING@ESR Experiments

Experiments for a number of research fields are planned utilizing the low-energy heavy-ion stored beams available at CRYRING@ESR. These experiments perform spectroscopy in unprecentented resolution in the strong-field domain, study atomic or nuclear processes in slow collisions, derive relevant data for modelling astrophysical plasma, or induce modifications of materials surfaces and biological tissue samples. The "Physics book" lays out a number fo foreseen experiments in more detail.

Most experiments plan for using ions from the GSI accelerator chain through ESR, providing intense beams of highly charged ions, and that is indeed the raison d'être for the CRYRING@ESR project at all, as it operates in a worldwide unique range of energy, charge state, and intensity. Nevertheless, for e.g. technological tests of new detector developments or for some selected experiments, the local RFQ beamline may be used as a alternative injection path, even though it serves a strongly limited reach in energy, intensity and available ion species.

Beamtimes

Beamtimes at CRYRING@ESR can be applied for through the G-PAC review process for experiment proposals. For ion beams injected through ESR a bi-annual call for proposals will be announced, and for ion beams injected from the local injector annual calls are forseen.

CRYRING@ESR Users

The CRYRING@ESR Users community is open to all scientists who would like to participate in experiments at this facility. We have created a mailinglist and invite to open discussions regarding all experimental matters at this facility. To sign up, please follow the directions on the  mailinglist web interface. (If you have trouble with the sign-up, feel free to contact us.)

You are also encouraged to register as a member of the SPARC collaboration.

Meetings

The CRYRING@ESR Users community meets at GSI approximately once a month for coordination of experiment planning, preparations, setup and the discussion of results. Normally, these meetings takes place on the third Friday of the month, starting at 11:00 (Berlin time) in a suitable online conference system. Invitations are sent out through our mailinglist.
