Deceleratoren
Now at GSI and in the future at FAIR ions are accelerated to high energies to produce exotic particles. Here, exotic particles are heavy, highly charged stable or short lived ions and antiprotons. However, to reach exceptional precision when observing and measuring different properties it is necessary to slow the ions down and store them.
The department Decelerators supervises and operates the decelerator facility HITRAP and the low energy storage ring project CRYRING@ESR in close collaboration with the research division atomic physics.
