The international accelerator center FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), one of the largest research projects worldwide, is currently being built in Darmstadt. The FAIR "Site Management" (SMG) department is looking for an experienced

Head of Machine Assembly (all genders)

The challenging and responsible task includes the coordination of the installation of the FAIR accelerator on the construction site and contribution to the implementation of the agreed installation strategy. 

Your tasks:

• Coordination of the preliminary planning work between the machine installation sub-projects, including the creation of assembly and testing strategies and the associated work and testing instructions
• Harmonization and structuring of work processes and instructions
• Coordination of document creation and filing in coordination with the sub-projects
• Supporting the site manager, particularly in coordinating and monitoring all logistical processes relating to machine assembly
• Management of the scheduling, cost, risk and quality management process
• Internal and external communication with suppliers and assembly contractors
• Proactive monitoring of progress, control of critical issues and reporting to the sub-project manager
• Support in the resource management process and escalation of open issues (e.g. personnel availability) to the sub-project manager

Your profile:

• Degree in physics or mechanical engineering
• Proven technical competence in industrial plant engineering
• Of advantage: Expertise in acceleration technology, in particular ultra-high vacuum, radiation protection, cryogenics, power supply and power supply units as well as control systems
• Relevant professional experience in the assembly of complex industrial systems
• Of advantage: Professional experience in the assembly of complex accelerator systems
• Relevant experience in planning and controlling complex project processes
• Experience in planning and managing interdisciplinary and international projects
• High level of team spirit and willingness to lead project teams
• Analytical approach, decisiveness and project-oriented decision-making
• Very good knowledge of German and English
• High level of commitment, ability to work under pressure, transparent communication and a proactive and confident manner

A strong interest in actively participating in the assembly of the FAIR accelerator system on the construction site rounds off the profile. The position is permanent. The salary is based on the public service collective agreement (Federal Government) “TVöD” applicable at FAIR.

We offer an interesting and varied position in an internationally renowned research institute. The position is limited to two years. The salary is based on the German civil service employees (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst - TVöD (Bund))
