Electrical Engineer for Magnet Protection (all genders)

The “Superconducting Magnets & Testing” (SCM) department is looking for a candidate to join its “Magnet Electrical Systems” (SCM-MES) group:

 

Electrical Engineer for Magnet Protection (all genders)

adept in electronic devices and systems for operation of superconducting FAIR components. As part of the FAIR project, corresponding electronic equipment has to be procured, qualified and configured for application in the future accelerator facility. Your hands-on participation in installation and commissioning will be a significant contribution to the successful launch of FAIR.

 

Your tasks:

  • Provisioning of components and related infrastructure for the magnet protection system of the FAIR facility as well as our magnet test benches. This includes project planning and potentially development, procurement, configuration as well as site acceptance tests.
  • Supervision, test and adaptation of hard- and software of already existing devices as well as our test bench for magnet protection electronics.
  • System expert and contact person for integration of magnet protection equipment into the accelerator facility as well as into our magnet test benches.
  • Verification of electrical integrity at superconducting FAIR modules as well as troubleshooting support.
  • Operation, guidance and control of electrical work as an appointed electrically qualified person.

 

Your skills:

  • Degree in electrical engineering (M.Sc./M.Eng.) or comparable qualification. Work experience in the field of superconducting components protection would be an asset.
  • Profound knowledge and ideally hands-on experience in electrical measurement, sensor technology, measurement data acquisition as well as installation and commissioning of associated equipment.
  • Proficiency in data transmission via Ethernet as well as data processing and data synchronisation within linked systems.
  • Practical experience in merging electronic equipment into large-scale electrical systems would be a plus.
  • Expertise in design, simulation, test and production of electronic devices using established simulation tools and EDA software. This includes a broad knowledge of electronic circuitry and components as well as know-how in EMC-compatible system assembly.
  • Programming experience with Python or C/C++.
  • Experience in implementation of FPGA-based electronics (preferably with ALTERA Cyclone) including the associated software design environment would be an asset.
  • Ability to handle MS-Windows and Linux operating systems as well as MS-Office applications.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, ideally a competent German ability.
  • Independent, structured way of working with a high level of proactivity, responsibility and team spirit.

 

We offer a multifaceted and interesting position within an internationally well-accepted research facility.

 

The position is time limited to 30.04.2029. Salary is as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund), effective at GSI.
